Supporting Children and Families with Complex Needs

Course length: 12 weeks
Delivery: Blended format incorporating online learning, trainer support and workplace.
Entry requirements: To enrol, students must be an existing worker in Early Childhood Education and Care and already hold a Certificate III or higher level qualification related to working with families and children.

 


Overview:

This skill set is for workers with existing experience or qualifications in community service roles seeking to broaden their skills. All students will be required to attend a scheduled online zoom workshop to complete their role play based assessments. Students will be given different dates to attend and are expected to attend in order to complete the skill set.

 

Course costs:

The CHCSS00090 Supporting Children and Families with Complex Needs skill set is currently being funded by the Queensland State Government’s Higher Level Skills for eligible participants. Eligible students must pay a Co-Contribution Fee.

Non-concessional: $20.00 ($5.00 per unit)
Concessional: $12.00 ($3.00 per unit)

Units:

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to monitor individuals, respond to behaviours of concern, deal with conflict and support responsibility for behaviour management and change. This unit applies to workers who work directly with people in a range of community service contexts.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to comply with personal hygiene, maintain food safety, contribute to cleanliness of food handling areas and dispose of food. This unit applies to food services workers who work under supervision and within defined guidelines. The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), with regard for their needs and within the context of support work. This unit applies to workers in a range of community services contexts who are responsible for their own outputs and are required to use some discretion and judgement.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to evaluate and enhance own practice through a process of reflection and ongoing professional development. This unit applies to workers in all industry sectors who take pro-active responsibility for their own professional development.

Students will be given different dates to attend and are expected to attend in order to complete the skill set.

Units:

This unit describes the skills required to provide on the job coaching to colleagues. This unit has no parity with National Workplace Trainer standards, but reflects the situation in many workplaces where formal and informal on the job coaching is extremely common. It includes preparation for coaching, and provision of and follow-up of coaching. This unit applies to those working in generalist and specialist roles within the public sector. The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to. Those undertaking this unit would work independently, performing complex tasks in a range of familiar contexts.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake supervisory and coordinating activities in work groups in health and community service organisations. Workers at this level are team leaders or managers responsible for coordinating and monitoring the activities and performance of work teams and other service providers. This unit applies to a range of leadership roles in health and community services workplaces.
