Pre-requisite: Please note there are no pre-requisites attached to these units, however to achieve this qualification the candidate must complete at least 120 hours of work (three weeks practical in a consecutive block) as detailed in the assessment requirements of the units of competency.

Overview
This qualification addresses work in client homes and other community settings under regular supervision within clearly defined organisational guidelines and service plans. These workers carry out activities to maintain personal care and/ or other activities of living for people in an aged care setting, carry out activities related to an individualised plan, report directly to a supervisor, and are not responsible for other workers.
This course has been developed under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and is a nationally recognised course.
NOTE: Students studying this course are required by law to obtain an Australian Police Check.

Entry requirements
Students need to be 15 years old and are required to have reading, writing and comprehension skills equivalent to Year 10 pass level to successfully complete the Certificate level courses.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide person-centred care and support to people living with dementia. It involves following and contributing to an established individual plan. This unit applies to workers in a residential or community context, including family homes. Work performed requires some discretion and judgement and may be carried out under regular direct or indirect supervision. The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to determine and respond to an individual’s physical personal support needs and to support activities of daily living. This unit applies to workers who provide support to people according to an established individualised plan in any community services context. Work performed requires some discretion and judgement and may be carried out under regular direct or indirect supervision. The individualised plan refers to the support or service provision plan developed for the individual accessing the service and may have many different names in different organisations. This unit applies to workers who provide support under direct or indirect supervision in any community services or health context. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide individualised services in ways that support independence, as well as, physical and emotional wellbeing. This unit applies to workers in a range of community services contexts who provide frontline support services within the context of an established individualised plan. The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, management and other industry providers. This unit applies to a range of health and community service contexts where workers may communicate face-to-face, in writing or using digital media and work with limited responsibility under direct or indirect supervision. The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies. The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. Specific licensing/regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.

This unit applies to all workers who require knowledge of workplace health and safety (WHS) to carry out their own work, in both centre-based and home-based service provision.
