Imagine's Child Care students experience Aboriginal culture

On Tuesday 11 November, 2014, Imagine Education Australia students studying Cert. III in Early Childhood Education and Care visited the Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Burleigh Heads for a practical experience as part of their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander unit.

The students learnt about the Aboriginal history and culture of the Gold Coast, and gained an insight into the spirituality and society of the Yugambeh Aboriginal people, who are one of the oldest living cultures in the world.

This excursion was valuable to the students. They achieved an understanding of Aboriginal culture and the significance of the land on the Gold Coast. The students also experienced the telling of Dreamtime stories, participated in Aboriginal dancing, witnessed a didgeridoo demonstration, and embarked on a walk around Burleigh Headland, where they learnt about the lifestyle of Aboriginals on this land, and the effects of the arrival of white man.
